Square Rooter teamed up with Sloppy Rod from my least favourite runsite – the park near the zoo. Sure enough he sent us off up the side of the waterfall with the prospect of a Wimp/Rambo ahead. The first circle check was a no brainer and I stepped ahead of Chuckie to make sure I picked up trail up the hill. Sure enough we were heading up, until we ran out of paper by a pile of ripped off strips. We called looking and carried on up the side of the waterfall – being a popular area, it seemed like the trail might have been sabotaged. It had, but it turned out we’d gone through a V check, and the pile of paper was what was left of the check back. Behind us NOYB was leading the way on true trail, while myself, Chuckie, Turkish and Lumberjackoff carried on up the hill.

With no trail to be found, we hit the main road, and turned right to head down the hill along the main road. Surely we would find trail at somepoint? It was a long way down, and a long way around, but finally I spotted some paper on a tree, and sure enough a circle check (as yet unbroken) at the side of the road. We carried on down the hill – not On. Back up the hill and there was Tasty Buns and NOYB coming out of the temple. Over the road a trail headed down and there we found paper, finally we were back hashing.

After a longer than needed climb, and a long run down the road, I was just trying to keep up as CW set the pace up front. A few more circles and then nothing… A check, but no trail for a long, long way – until we found the hares still setting the in trail. They’d been so worried about having lost a bunch of hashers that they’d forgotten to set the end of the trail.

Again the trail ran out at the road, so Turkey and I just ran on in for a beer. Had we been able to follow the trail, I think it would have been a nice set – some interesting flattish trails discretely hidden at the foot of the mountain, only something got lost in the hare”brief”. Something was also lost when the hares forgot about JC’s 700th run.

Brown Finger teamed up with Chuck Wooooo at the last minute to put together a “serviceable” run. A familiar run site, with familiar trails around in Ob Kham – where the Happy Hash 400th run was.

We were set off down the hill and after getting a couple of checks right to begin with, things went down hill and I got caught up behind a large pack scrambling up a steep cliff. Up one, down one, up another and we headed up towards the ridgeline. Turkish led the way on a familiar trail – only we couldn’t hear him – as usual. He’d got himself whistle, but probably didn’t have enough puff to blow it. Sloppy Rod, myself and Graven Image were on the chase, and finally we pulled him back and had a chuckle as he hit an obvious false trail.

From then on it was the 3 of us working as a team out in front. The trail was quite fun catching us out from time to time as it was marked in leaf coloured paper strips. We were nearly back, but it was too soon, so we cut off to the right and the trail was suddenly on fire. Some hashers turned back, but most leapt through the flames and followed what was left of the trail the other side. Shortly later it was time for another fire jump and we were back on the unburnt side.

We could smell the finish, and as Sloppy Rod checked wrong at the last check, Nam Ron finally caught us and joined us for the On-In.

Square Rooter teamed up with Brown Finger, Big Top & Toe Sucker to bring us a ‘dirty’ new year run. With so many minds working together, what on earth would they come up with?

We set off and there were no checks for a kilometer, that was straight down a road – a fast start! Then turned abruptly and started up the hill, crossing onto some familiar trails that we’d run from Ob Khan before. Up to a ridge and the trail kept turning left – how? Several checks had me foxed because I expected us to end up running into old trails, but nope the sly hares had found another way down and I fortunately got lucky as we hit the checks at the bottom of the hill. A long flat section had Graven “following” me at the checks, along with Alice who was full of inside information!

We started scrambling up into the hills again, but now the checks were getting easier – unfortunately for me Sloppy Rod & Alice hit the front, along with “Grey Ham”. I preferred to hang back with Fandango, but we all managed to come in at the same time as the walkers on their walking trail. Except when I say “All”, I lie – as one visiting hasher didn’t make it back to the A. With the GM & hares exploring the hills in the dark, the circle was tough. Turns out the hasher was already back at the hash pub drinking beer.

All in all, a great run with plenty of challenge and a good warm up for next week’s ball breaker!

The “A” Bucket was an orchid farm in the Maesa valley, a location that Sups couldn’t quite get to on time, so we set off without him. The trail set off and at the first opportunity we hit the rice fields, a balancing game along little walls, and it was Sloppy Rod that demonstrated his gymnastic abilities nimbly dancing ahead like a fairy! Only for him to be thwarted at the first V check.

We got across to a road, and the trail started going up, and up, and up… For a while we cut off trail and headed back down the hill, only to have to climb back up again when we hit the trail – it was as if the hares were completely disoriented stumbling around in the jungle. When we hit the main trail, we followed it up, up, up and finally hit the road about 3km higher up the mountain than where we’d started. Fortunately the hare was waiting for us there with beers and a ride back to the A. Some foolish runners decided to run back down the hill, we picked some up, and passed the others.

An uphill hash… Just what we need before heading out on Square Rooter’s Doi Suthep run today… :(

Been going stir crazy after tearing ankle ligaments, so decided late on to head up to the outstation. After the usual Friday night frivolities, Saturday was hashing day, and thankfully HRA had brought me a ankle brace which offered great support.

I set off on a great trail, but was soon left behind by the FRBs – Sloppy, Chuckie and HRA along with some visitors. I fell into place with Shagless and Reverse Thrust, with Frozen Dick and Microwave just a little ahead. (I hope I won’t have to type that again!) The trail was fantastic – easy going and some beautiful virgin views. The checks seemed to be quite obvious, but I guess it is a lot easier when they’ve already been kicked out!

Superman sets a formidable pace and I could see him ahead but struggled to make any ground until he stopped to water the orchard, and I ambled along with him to the beer stop. Yes… Beer Stop… Beer and Stop! I’d done enough, better to rest the ankle and enjoy the beer! It sounded like the 2nd half of the trail was just as good as the first and there were plenty of happy faces at the end. A good outstation, ended that evening with some dominos with the ladies – thanks for your money!

The hangover wasn’t as bad as I expected, and so the hangover run was just what the doctor ordered. I managed to be and FRB again with a combination of a little inside information from the hares, some intelligent short cutting and luck.

I wasn’t sure who was the hare, but Foxy teamed up with Just Cumming to set a run out towards PTIS past Maerim. A few comments about how far out it was, but for me it was the better side of town and it also attracted the northern likes of Sloppy Rod.

Foxy had been on about the area for a while, and sure enough I didn’t recognise any of the trails, and it seemed like there were plenty of great running trails there! I set off and immediately got the first check wrong, as Chuckie picked up the pace. The 2nd circle caught us all though and we were some time to find trail – eventually the hares pointing it out. A combination of ‘blue-green’ paper in ‘green-blue’ plants, and off while paper strips in off white bamboo leaves made it tricky to say the least!

Anyway we went up a gentle hill and arced around a nice trail with the pack largely being kept together by 150m checks. As we headed back towards the A the pack was separated with Skiddy charging us off in the wrong direction down a steep hill while CW found trail ahead with Sloppy. Back up the hill and fortunately we were brought back together by another 160m check that had CW going around in circles.

Speaking of circles, another fun circle!

Down the canal road to an Anything / Chilly Pusy run with new GM Big Top. I turned up early to do the stand in hash cash role after various problems in the week. A few runners missing as they’d head overseas, a few runners missing as they went to the Lanna, but then several runners returning – their hatred of the old GM evident with one refusing to directly give me the money!! Oh well… On On right?

I missed the harebrief as I tidied up the cash, and then set off up the trail overtaking the walkers. I quickly got near the front as Sloppy gallantly took the wrong trail at the first check and led the way up the hill. Familiar trails, and I got lucky with 2nd guessing the hares. I was lucky and got a bit of a lead over HRA and Sloppy Rod.

It was an excellent trail with several unexpected twists and turns. We’ve run that area so many times, but still we were taking different routes – with the trail abruptly turning corners several times. Up and down, up and down – no major hills, but some good running trails in between the climbs.

Finally we came out of the hills and onto the flats, with Sloppy catching me as again we couldn’t find paper – “Looking!”. HRA & Sloppy lead the way to what was the last circle I saw and as I checked off trail, I ended up in someone’s fenced in garden, struggling to get out. When I did find trail again, I figured I was back in the pack, and wasn’t surprised when I overtook Burrito Butt & Wooly Jumper.

Past the On-In and back at the A, there were plenty of short cutters already there, but it seems I’d missed another dip into the mountains. Oh well! It was a great work out, mostly well set on good trails. Big Top did a great job of her first circle, and as a sign of things to come, it’ll be an interesting year ahead.

Graven teamed up with Fishy Fingers to set out at the tiger’s head – one of my favourite places to run. I had high hopes and high expectations! With the buses arriving right at run time we were a little delayed waiting for the virgins to pay and finally we set off through the assault courses to the trails behind the hill.

I found myself jogging along early with an energetic virgin called Suzanne – who was a good runner and kept her pace throughout. Sadly we weren’t on paper and had to cut back to the trail that was going up. I’d promised Leaky Faucet that it would be a flat run, but the early parts weren’t! We got to the check at the 5 way intersection, and when I picked it right, I thought I was away at the front – only Skiddy appeared from ahead and the lead rotated to Sloppy Rod.

Good checks had us rotating all the way through, as it took a while before I was confident we were heading around to the left. The pace was quick but there was a good group at the front with the 2 virgins, Sloppy, Skiddy and myself – with Angry Inch cutting corners to keep up.

After about 7km, we hit the finale – a new rope bridge that took about 3 minutes per person to climb across while the hare was placed with camera to capture the moments. I took a necessary nap after the crossing, and joined up with Horny for the last pass over the hill to the A bucket. They’d taken us up to do the rappel down the rope, with co-hare capturing that moment. I bailed and came up the road.

Enjoyed the circle, enjoyed the run, enjoyed the OnOnOn.

The birthday pairing teamed up for a 2nd year, and this time took us out to Maejo – the reservoir behind the Tiger Camp. That was where I first co-hared with HRA, and I remember having fun scouting there. There are so many trails around, and with the experience of Sloppy, surely it would be a good run?

Sloppy arrived fairly early and told me the run was to just go around the lake. Was he bluffing? Was it real? Never trust the hares right?

He set us off over the dam wall, with Humperdick spotting the powder on top of the wall. There was a circle check at the end of the dam, and I decided to trust the hare, and picked the nice trail running along the back of the lake. It’s a narrow trail, and when I found the paper, I knew the pack would have trouble getting past the walkers. It also meant there would be no checks for a long time as there aren’t many trail options.

Finally Angry Inch came up behind me, and promptly got the one check wrong – we didn’t see him again for sometime! We crossed a boggy part, where Big Top lost her shoes. Finally we got to the end of the lake with the pack stretched out, only Horny Monkey and None of Your Business were near me as we crossed the road at the W/R split.

Then we hit some great running trails – the ideal trails for a training run. With the pack broken up, there was little chance of it coming back together. Running along with Horny Monkey at the front, we picked check after check right, and Horny wasn’t in the mood to check the wrong way. Graven eventually caught us up as we nearly got to the road in time for the jog along the tarmac back to the A. As the hare said, it was just around the lake – at least that was for the walkers. The Rambo trail added a great little jog.

I showed up a little early at the Bone Residence and found the hare – she assured me she knew nothing about the run, because she’d been doing the food instead! Clearly Bone Hur was going to be the guilty party if it wasn’t a good run. In the hare brief he talked about toilet paper and pointed us out the back gate.

I set off and along the road we ran into a check back. Back to the cross check and again my next choice was a check back. Sloppy had enough even then and took off for a private run into the hills. The true trail had us on a little loop back around to the road and our usual route to the hills. With few checks the pack split up following Semen Sores for a while and then when we headed up into the hills behind the temple Chuck Wao took over.

I lost sight of the leaders as we cut across the hill and back down. A glimpse of Horny Monkey at the road as I ran past the quarry and what appeared to be a cock fight or muay thai. A circle check that nobody had kicked out, but it had to be left so I took off and finally heard some calls off to the right. I made my way around the road and intercepted the FRBs “checking”? or were they just off paper? no idea, but it kept happening as the hare took random abrupt turns.

Eventually I spotted the hare hiding in some bushes, and headed towards him. i enjoyed Chuckie’s grim face as he jogged in a few moments after me. The pack was split up massively due to the fast pace and paucity of checks which gave us good time for a dip in the pool before the circle.
